Review: Activated Charcoal Toothpaste
"Hello" is the name of the activated charcoal toothpaste
brand I’ve been using as of late. And according to my dental hygienist, it’s keeping
my teeth relatively clean. And may I add, I currently have braces so, to hear
that is a great compliment.
I stumbled upon this tooth paste as I was shopping at my
local CVS pharmacy. Lately, activated charcoal has been in every beauty product
under the sun. Be it face wash, shampoos, pore strips you name it. So, of course
I wanted to try a charcoal toothpaste and see what all the commotion is about.
With a few choices to pick from I decided to try my luck
with “Hello”. The design of the label looks clean and modern which, was what
caught my attention. The toothpaste also read that coconut oil is another ingredient
used.
But, what exactly is activated charcoal and what are the
benefits? Activated charcoal is a fine black powder substance used in emergency
rooms to counteract the effects of a drug overdose. Its toxin-eliminating properties
work because impurities bind to the activated charcoal.
When you squeeze the toothpaste, it comes out black and it can
make a mess. As you brush your teeth black speckles of the toothpaste land
everywhere and spitting without bending over the sink is just a no. Trust me,
don’t make the mistake of not bending over because a mess will happen.
As you brush, the toothpaste turns grey in your mouth and it
doesn’t look too pretty. The brand states that fresh mint is also part of its ingredients,
but I, personally, don’t feel a minty fresh feeling when I’m done brushing.
That would be another negative thing about this product. I like having that tingling
minty fresh feeling at the end or else I don’t feel like I brushed my teeth.
However, this toothpaste does seem like it whitens my teeth
better than non-activated charcoal toothpaste. As mentioned before, my dental hygienist
noticed a difference in the health of my mouth. I never even mentioned that I
was using this toothpaste until she asked me, what I was doing different. It actually
took me a moment to think about what had changed in my teeth cleaning routine.
Overall, I would give this toothpaste a 4 out of 5 stars. So,
there you have it, my take on activated charcoal toothpaste. Keep smiling!
